A 46 year old man has been pronounced dead following a fire at the Highgate Mental Health Centre in Dartmouth Park Hill on Sunday 3rd February.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 6:30am but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after at 7:05. 100 people were evacuated from the building by staff but fortunately no others were injured.
The fire has been ruled as intentional and two men aged 21 and 30 have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The victim and the two men arrested are all thought to be residents at the NHS run medical facility.
Whether intentional or accidental, fires pose a great risk to businesses and their employees. Being prepared for such an incident can help save lives and prevent panic. Every business should have evacuation procedures in place as well as a way of accounting for all employees so that the correct information, such as who is still left in the building, can be passed on to emergency services.
