In the News: 50 dead after New Zealand shooting

A man has been arrested following the brutal shootings that took place on Friday 15th March in Christchurch, New Zealand. At least 50 people lost their lives with a further 50 needing medical assistance for severe injuries.

The incident began at Al Noor Mosque, where the gunman massacred 41 civilians including children. He then went on Linwood Mosque which is situated in a nearby suburb, opening fire on the people waiting outside the mosque.

Upon attempting to gain entry to continue the attacks, an Imam named Abdul Wahabzadah, distracted the shooter to try and protect the worshippers inside.

He was picked up by police half an hour after the attacks began. Police are investigating several other suspects who could be related to the incident.
